Some men will sell you loyalty
But all must give their trust
That perfect gift without a price
Though offer if you must
Your dollars and your diamonds both
What riches you would spend
You cannot buy your way within
The fortress of a friend
Those golden walls impregnable
A haven pure and true
So safe within the heart of trust
The unprotected You
Unburdened by suspicious thoughts
Released from fear and shame
In comfort and security
No need to levy blame
For poor indeed are those who live
Eternally in doubt
And never know the honest grace
Of company without
Grey motives, false sincerity
Self-interest at the core
Instead of just the wind beneath
Your wings to make you soar
Rethink then as you gauge your wealth
If trust you do not “own”
For riches cannot slake the thirst
Of he who drinks alone.
